Care about Sandgate village- then the Sandgate Society is for you
The Sandgate Society is a civic society – registered charity No. 280497 – campaigning for over 60 years to preserve and enhance Sandgate village’s unique built and natural heritage and to promote the well-being of our community.
The society’s historic headquarters is the Grade II listed Old Fire Station (51 Sandgate High Street Kent CT20 3AH) which is open every Saturday morning from 10.00am to 12.30pm.
In December 2022 the Sandgate Society amalgamated with the Sandgate Heritage Trust Ltd to take over ownership of the Old Fire Station (the society had previously been a tenant paying rent). The new Charitable Incorporated Organisation (ICO) will (still) be called the Sandgate Society but with slightly different governance arrangements there being Directors/Trustees (supported by a committee). The focus will remain on delivering an annual events programme and an accessible digital and physical archive but with an added opportunity of managing a historic building to contribute the society’s objective of protecting the village’s built heritage.
